I had the AMAZING opportunity to go to an exhibition showcase as a "top MHS artist". Six schools from around Utah were invited to the Utah State Capital during a Legislative meeting. Our purpose was to show the Legislators what our school can do, the true talent we have within the students & to persuade them that we deserve the funding for the kind of classes that we presented in skill at the Capital. These included Art, (drawing & photography), Foods, (our Spartan Cove chefs), & Technology, (personal robots & web designing).
We brought along our best "expert students" in these fields who showed off what we were capable of! We set up these big stands showcasing the best arts of MHS. Three of my works were on display, (my Mellow Molly pastel, Grandma Betty Jean black & white portrait, & the Dance is Life* picture.) It was a huge event & we were there from 9:30am-2:00pm.

Myself along with abstract graphic design artist Tyler Jordan were the only two art students that got to go...so it was an honor to be invited & presented at such an event. I was set up in the center of the rotunda with an easle. I was asked to draw on the spot, as a demo, so I decided to draw a person because it takes a lot of skill to be able to do them, & even more to show the ability right there. So I picked this picture (above) of my adorable cousin Jaden's baby picture. So innocent & sweet, so it was perfect to draw! I have never drawn in front of so many people before, there were many strangers peeking over my shoulder to watch me draw & also snapping pictures! Tyler was set up beside me, he draws on his lap, with ink pens & special markers. I found out that we are both commissioned artists as well. My last piece went for $100 & so did his! Neat!
I was so glad that I could show off my talent in front of all of the Legislators along with the other students that came along too. Thanks for such a great day & opportunity!
